Would it not be wise to implement a ping limit on the servers, say 100ms, with a one round time frame for the players ping to stabilize. Not only would this eliminate lagers but also hackers who mask their latency, hence the level of gaming in NZ would only increase. I do understand the many still use "cheep" isp's but I do not and many many good players do not. Recoil attracts some of the best players in NZ and AU, why not make it more competitive?

Pros? Cons?

100ms wouldnt be wise. Quite often you'll find some isps on peak have latency issues.

How does making someone with better internet make the server more competitive?
I for one cant see this being implemented.

Also you can exploit around a ping kicker.

If the hackers are masking their latency, how is a ping kick going to work on them o__O

Don't see it improving the level of gaming in NZ, Public isn't very good for competitive CSS you pick up terrible habits. And I don't actually see any of the best players from NZ or Aus playing recoil servers.

Public is for fun and imo should always stay that way, I already disapprove of the rankings, but it attracts people that want to be number one, No Idea why? it's no brag-able achievement..

I agree, server stats should be abolished, less spawn awpers etc...
Switching from ISP A to ISP B which offers better latency already makes a gamer more serious while being able to develop skills and have fun on a pub. I cry as just now two players with ping over 300ms were on to the annoyance of many.
Ping masking DOES NOT hide your real ping via the "status" command. Perhaps 150ms to work around peak load times? As for those working around a ping kicker, would it not make them immediately obvious to admins for a quick kick.

I was thinking about this but 100ms is a bit low. Some people don't lagg on 100ms, if it was implement this action then i would say have the ping setting to around 250-300ms.

It would get rid of the laggers plus international players, even though i did have fun with some american players and their accents. ^_^

Correct ping masking doesn't hide their true latency, but works around the plugins and suggesting admins kick people for lag is ridiculous - we have more pressing issues to deal with than little billy lagging and a few people getting upset that they "cant hit him" - it works both ways.

Banana is being more realistic, in saying that its not likely to be implemented.

I'm on 5ms latency now. It's so hard to play now cause Im used to 60-70ms ping.

This has been covered before, the reality is that due to xnet spikes (where everyones latency jumps to 150-200ms) everyone would be kicked if such a system was in place.

So its up to the admins to make a call.

Personally I'd hate to see a ping limit attached to a server, mainly because of lag spikes I suffer due to sharing a net connection here. I'd be alright with a 4-500+ ping kick and I've seen it on a few different servers over the years.
But anything lower then that would be stepping on more toes then it'd be worth in my opinion.

I thought there was a 250ms pink kick 3 years ago on Recoil, but i think it was another server i am thinking about.

Like Sly said, 350+ mark would be good. Anything that is obviously unplayable.
